Effect of Partial Resection of Anterior Inferior Middle Turbinate on Pediatric Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Abstract
Functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS) is a functional procedure that addresses the ostiomeatal complex by removing diseased tissues and restoring normal physiology.
FESS has become the primary surgical modality for treatment of chronic paranasal sinusitis in children who have not responded to optimal medical management. We analysed the results of 9 pediatric functional endoscopic sinus surgery from April,
1994
through November, 1994 retrospectively. Three cases who underwent partial resection of anterior inferior middle turbinate showed getting wide surgical field and reduction of postoperative synechia than classical Messerklinger technique.
Therefore, We recommended partial resection of anterior inferior middle turbinate on pediatric FESS on selected cases to get better surgical field and prevent synechia formation on the entrance of ethmoid cavity.
